ABOUT Dr. Ruth Peters

For over twenty years, Dr. Ruth Peters has specialized in treating children, adolescents and families in her private practice in Clearwater, Florida. Her focus has been upon teaching parents how to control their difficult children, as well as how to motivate kids to reach their academic potential. During the past ten years, Dr. Peters has repeatedly been featured on national television including "Oprah," "Good Morning America," "CBS This Morning," NBC's "Today," "CNN Morning News," MSNBC and "Lifetime Live." She has served as Parenting Contributor to ABC's "Good Morning America" as well as NBC's "Later Today." Currently, Dr. Peters is a contributing psychologist for NBC's "Today," appearing on a regular basis.

For several years Dr. Peters presented a semi-weekly segment entitled "Lifecast" on Tampa Bay's CBS television affiliate. She has been interviewed by magazines including Cosmopolitan, Woman's World, Ladies Home Journal, Parents, Working Mother, Child, Reader's Digest, McCall's, Redbook, Chatelaine, and Family Circle, as well as by syndicated newspaper columnists. Dr. Peters has also been a Contributing Editor to Child Magazine, as well as authoring a featured column in The St. Petersburg Times entitled "Middle Ground." She currently serves as a study skills consultant to Sylvan Learning Systems.

Dr. Peters is the author of several books, including her newest, Laying Down the Law: The 25 Laws of Parenting. Other books include Who's In Charge? A Positive Parenting Approach To Disciplining Children; Don't Be Afraid To Discipline; It's Never Too Soon To Discipline; and Overcoming Underachieving: A Simple Plan to Boost Your Kids' Grades and End the Homework Hassles. She has also written manuals entitled "Child Behavior Management" and "Academic Achievement." Her audio and video tapes on Child Development and Attention Deficit Disorder, entitled "The Successful Child" and "Fighting for the Family" are widely distributed.

Dr. Peters travels throughout America presenting seminars to parents and educators, and has been a frequent speaker at Anthony Robbins' Results 2000 events. She has presented to the Florida Governor's Senate Task Force on School Safety, and continues to be a popular guest speaker on radio, television and community forums.
