ABOUT Susie Coelho

Susie Coelho is a leading home style guru and one of the only style experts who has successfully expanding into all four key areas of lifestyle - home, garden, entertaining, and cooking.

Susie's accessible style and straightforward advice make consumers immediately feel at home. The only lifestyle expert with more than 20 years of on-camera experience as a television personality, she has had a presence on Home & Garden Television for the last eight years. She currently hosts HGTV's prime-time outdoor design show, "Outer Spaces," and previously she was a forerunner in the makeover genre with her hit show, "Surprise Gardener," which ran on HGTV for five years. Coelho also hosts numerous seasonal specials for HGTV, including "White House Christmas Memories" and "The Look for Spring." She has appeared on more than 200 HGTV episodes to date. She is also the bestselling author of two books, Susie Coelho's Everyday Styling: Easy Tips for Home, Garden and Entertaining and Styling for Entertaining: 8 Simple Steps, 12 Miracle Makeovers.

Embraced by the media, Coelho has been described by The New York Times as "the effervescent cable television design guru who takes an infectious gung-ho approach...." It also points out that "the effect is frolicsome rather than egotistical." In addition to her work with HGTV, Coelho is a frequent contributor and style expert for ABC's "The View" and was previously a regular contributor to NBC's "Today." Recently she signed an exclusive agreement with Mervyns to introduce a line of stylish and affordable home basics and decor called "Susie Coelho Style," launching in fall 2005.

Coelho has appeared on many national television shows, including "Oprah," where she's offered tips on home, gardening, and entertaining. Coelho, her styling tips, makeovers, and television shows are also covered in many print and online media outlets, including Redbook, USA Today, Good Housekeeping, Cosmopolitan, The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, and iVillage. Furthermore, she is a frequent resource for trend advice for business magazines including Smart Money and U.S. News & World Report, among others.

An eclectic background and multi-cultural upbringing have influenced Coelho's approach to design and connect her to a broad consumer audience. Her inspirational approach helps teach people to develop and cultivate their own individual style and flair and encourages exploration and creativity. Coelho's passionate approach to life and her can-do attitude are reflected in her mantra, "Keep Creating." With a busy career and two children, she knows firsthand how difficult it can be to find time for entertaining, cooking, and conventional decorating. Having coined the phrase "undecorated," Coelho's focus is on having fun with simple and personal styling that achieves maximum impact.

Coelho started her career as a successful Ford model in New York. Later, she became a host of HBO's "Entertainment News," where she covered top entertainment stories and events including the Emmys, the Grammys, and the Academy Awards. While married to Sonny Bono, Coelho also designed and ran two successful "Bono's" restaurants. Over the years, she has cooked for and entertained many of Hollywood's most notable celebrities and business leaders, both in her restaurants and in her home.

In addition to her career as a restaurateur, Coelho was also a successful retail entrepreneur, acquiring and selling celebrity collectibles with her "A Star is Worn" stores on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles and in Brentwood, California. During that time, she simultaneously pursued her philanthropic interests and joined "clothes aid," making both clothing and financial contributions to more than 100 charities and non-profit organizations.

In 1997, Coelho launched Susie Coelho Enterprises, Inc., a rapidly growing, multi-media lifestyle company focused on television, endorsements, licensing, product development, and publishing. With Coelho at its helm, this venture has blossomed during the past eight years into a fresh and exciting lifestyle force. Based in Southern California, SCE has numerous divisions and works with leading television, publishing, and corporate partners. Coelho is also on the board of directors of WriteGirl, a non-profit organization for inner city high school girls focused on the craft of creative writing and empowerment through self-expression.

A true Renaissance woman with international style, Coelho is of East Indian heritage and was raised in England, France, and Washington, DC. From Washington, DC, she moved to New York City and then settled in Southern California. She currently lives in Los Angeles with her two children.
